of the Land

A Sensory Art & Dining Experience at The Tartan Fox

Join me on Saturday 28th June, for a one-of-a-kind sensory experience at the stunning Adam Handling Restaurant, The Tartan Fox, nestled in the Summercourt countryside just outside Newquay.

You might be wondering—what does this have to do with the ocean and waves? While my art is often inspired by the sea, I’m equally captivated by the textures and momentum of the land—rolling hills, woodlands, and fields alive with movement and depth.

In this unique painting session, we’ll tap into the rich textures of the countryside, using found and repurposed materials to create your own textured expression of the landscape. You’ll explore art in a whole new way.

And because creativity and indulgence go hand in hand, we’ll also awaken our sense of taste with an unforgettable Fireside Feast, crafted by the renowned team at The Tartan Fox.

Come for the art, stay for the feast—leave with a connection to the beautiful Cornish landscape.

My Textured Landscapes

My latest collection of landscape pieces were inspired by the raw beauty of Dartmoor, a place where I’ve spent countless hours meandering through its rugged terrain. These pieces capture the intricate contrasts of the landscape—the tangled root systems, the weathered textures of tree bark, the flow of streams, and the lush moss that carpets the moorland.

At the heart of this collection is an exploration of texture and contrast—from the rough bark softened by moss to the fluid movement of water over silt and stone.

Sustainability and storytelling intertwine in my work as usual. I use upcycled tea bag paper from Cornish brand Cornish Tea & Coffee—material that would otherwise be discarded when rolls near their end. This delicate yet durable paper brings movement to my paintings, mimicking the organic flow of the land. I also incorporate silt and moss to create earthy, organic marks, while touches of gold leaf illuminate the canvas, echoing the way autumn sunlight dances across the landscape.

Each piece is a tactile, immersive experience, inviting you to feel the energy and essence of Dartmoor through layers of texture and depth. To view the full collection of available landscape paintings, click here.

Immerse Yourself in Art, Nature & Flavour

Join me at 4 PM in the Barn at The Tartan Fox for a two-hour textured painting session, where I’ll guide you in creating your own tactile expression of the landscape—inspired by the themes of my work.

Bring along found elements from a woodland or countryside setting that holds meaning for you—tree bark, leaves, or anything that can add texture and depth to your piece. Using these natural materials, you’ll craft a painting rich with layers, movement, and personal connection.

After our creative session, we’ll feast together! The talented chefs at The Tartan Fox will prepare an unforgettable Fireside Feast, nourishing us after an afternoon of exploration and creativity.

This is more than a workshop—it’s a multi-sensory experience, where you’ll see, touch, hear, and even taste the landscape. Leave with a piece of art, a full heart, and a deeper connection to nature.

“I had such a wonderful day at the “Wearable Waves” workshop. It was the most fantastic combination of relaxing yoga, followed by fun-filled creative time painting on fabric. I honestly never wanted the day to end! Gemma is a fantastic, encouraging teacher and managed to patiently teach us the techniques needed to create a wave painting on our clothing item. Anyone from beginner to advanced artists would enjoy this chance to get creative in a unique way!I have come away from this workshop feeling relaxed, inspired and I also have the coolest denim ‘wave’ jacket ever!”
