'Porthleven Moments' Original Textured Painting
This painting was captured whilst gazing out at a building swell at Porthleven, famous for its huge breaking waves.
Gemma created this piece on a study of Porthleven, a place that she finds deeply inspiring, with its contrast of huge breaking swells over the harbour walls and yet still, calm waters within the harbour itself.
In the breaking waves you can see Gemma has used repurposed fibreglass offcuts from a surfboard shaper in Newquay, sculpting the material into the powerful wave crest.
To signify the two opposing conditions of the location, Gemma wanted to add a contrasting element, something striking yet subtle, a further contradiction. She has therefore used a bold neon pink which builds from underneath the 3D texture of the wave, flowing out gently into the turquoise water below.
30cm x 30cm x 5cm canvas
Framed - white wood tray frame
